SR-9 Designated National Scenic Byway

SR-9 was recently designated a National Scenic Byway on February 16, 2021 by the U. S. Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).

Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan (NHMP) Public Input Request

Public input request The Five County Association of Governments is updating an existing Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan, whichseeks to understand community risks and vulnerabilities to hazards including problem soils, radon gas, earthquakes, landslides, wildfire, severe weather, drought, and flooding. The plan allows communities to establish relevant mitigation actions that directly address these hazards impacton the communityto reduce risk to the residents, property, economy, and natural environment. La Verkin City is participating in this planning effort to develop a mitigation strategy.

RFP for Environmental Study of Multi-Use Trail

The City of La Verkin, in partnership with the Zion Regional Collaborative, is soliciting proposals from qualified firms to complete environmental review in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The review will address a proposed multi-use trail between the City of La Verkin, UT and the Southern Entrance of Zion National Park. ZRC NEPA RFP.

City Council Meeting for 4/15/20

The format for the upcoming city council meeting has changed slightly due to coronavirus outbreak and social distancing as directed by Governer Herbert. All of the public are welcome to attend at the city council chambers, 6 pm 4/15/20. We ask that 6' social distancing be observed.

Irrigation Water Update 3-31-20

Due to a large break in the main transmission line that feeds La Verkin and Hurricane irrigation water, the Washington County Water Conservancy District (WCWCD),  took the water out of the line Sunday afternoon, March 29. WCWCD hopes to access the break by late Tuesday afternoon, March 31, and will then estimate a timeline for repair, and getting the water back into the line. They do not have a date yet as to when irrigation water will be flowing for residents and businesses.

The Utah Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) wants residents to know that their public water supply is safe. In the case of quarantine or outbreak related to the coronavirus, public drinking water systems are designed to continuously deliver safe drinking water to your tap. "Drinking water treatment and disinfection has effectively protected Utah's population for many decades.

3-19-20 Important - Changes to City & Police Dept Office Hours

ATTENTION CITIZENS! Based on the recommendation and guidance from the CDC, the Utah Governor’s Office and the Southwest Utah Public Health Department the La Verkin City Office at 435 North Main Street and the La Verkin City Police Department Office at 111 South Main will be closed to walk in traffic to help slow the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus). This will take effect March 19th at 12:00 PM and continue for an indefinite period. Key staff along with the Mayor will be meeting regularly to determine the best course of action to ensure the safety of La Verkin City Citizens as well as members of the city staff.
